Save Money by Making Your Own Bread

Not only is homemade bread delicious and full of nutrients you won`t find in store bought stuff, it`s also a great way to save money. Flour tends to be pretty cheap and if you stick to a basic bread recipe, you dont need many other ingredients, making this the perfect way to keep your food budget down. And there`s a bread type for everyone!

And for those who seriously have 10-15 minutes during meal prep, there`s always biscuits. Don`t be fooled into thinking that you have to make those plain Jane baking powder biscuits all the time, you can turn them into gourmet food by adding cheese, herbs or other fun ingredients and they are ready to go just a few minutes after you start mixing. For many, there simply isn`t enough time for all that kneading and waiting for bread to rise. Not to worry, there are bread recipes that let you skip all that and go straight to baking. The results are great, but in a fraction of the time.I suggest that you print the recipes for both the starter and the bread. You should know up front that its going to take about 10 days to grow your first batch of starter (Id love to share a cup of it with you, but technology hasnt quite mastered the art of sending material objects via cyber-space!). Once you get started, you can email me directly (using the email address found on the recipe pages) if you have any questions. Ill be happy to hold you hand while you create your first batch of homemade Sourdough Bread!OK, so enough about all this, lets get on with getting you started. First, this is not a recipe for bread machines. I dont own one. My only bread machine is a large crock mixing bowl, a big wooden spoon, a 31-year-old pastry cloth (a bridal shower gift from my mother), and my two hands. If you are looking for bread machine recipes, then search the Web---youll find oodles! I make bread by hand, from scratch, for the relaxation and personal satisfaction it brings me. So beware, youll be getting your hands right into the dough! If this isnt for you, then by all means, pass it by (or give it to a friend who might like to make bread by hand).Going for VarietyShopping for IngredientsSick of plain white bread? There`s no reason you need to stick to that! If you make your own bread, it`s super simple to change the ingredients up and turn out some pretty fantastic breads. How about making your own cinnamon loaf with raisins? Or maybe you`d like a cracked wheat loaf or homemade garlic loaf with butter and garlic incorporated.Oh, one thing, thoughbetter be sure to have a tub of butter handy! Youre not going to be able to resist itThe difference between homemade bread with other ones is that commercial bread is created to have uniform substance and texture, being produced on a massive scale and to have enough shelf-life for you to hold giving to the shop. Excessive amounts of yeast aid make a lot of bubbles inner the bread, which leads to the light texture of the bread. Lower high quality grains are also used and can lack the essential nutrients. The principal goal of commercialized bread is to be created as cheaply as achievable to earn the highest benefit.

Making your own bread can be very rewarding, in more ways than one. Your entire family will enjoy the taste of homemade bread and you`ll enjoy the fact that it doesn`t cost much at all.
